Quercetin is a natural flavonoid compound widely found in vegetables, fruits, and nuts. A great number of important biological activities of quercetin have been discovered in recent years, therefore interest in potential quercetin benefits on human health has rapidly grown.

Quercetin, the queen of flavonoids, has been reported to exhibit valuable effects for healthy blood circulation, as an antioxidant, but unfortunately, like many botanical extracts, it is barely absorbable. Thanks to a unique quercetin Phytosome® formulation, Quercefit®, quercetin extract derived from flower buds of Sophora japonica L., is up to 20-fold more bioavailable than unformulated quercetin, in line with the levels of a diet rich in vegetables and fruits.

Thanks to its original formulation, Quercefit® can hit the target much more efficiently compared to unformulated quercetin. Quercefit® shows optimized bio-absorption and solubility, which makes it usable at lower dosages retaining efficacy with no undesirable effects.

In triathlon athletes using Quercefit®, studies pointed out an optimization of training and performance and a leveling in oxidative stress. It is the right partner for supporting optimal physical performance and prompt recovery.

Plus, Quercefit® can also stand as the natural remedy in the allergy era. New research has confirmed that Quercefit® is a great natural remedy promoting wellbeing insensitive or intolerant subjects in periods when allergies are rife. A wish came true for the allergy-prone

Improved Oral Absorption of Quercetin from Quercetin Phytosome®, a New Delivery System Based on Food Grade Lecithin

Background and Objectives: The importance of quercetin and flavonoids in the diet and as food supplements is well known, and literature studies support their potential use to treat several human diseases. Many beneficial properties have been described for quercetin, so much effort has been directed into overcoming the major drawbacks of this natural compound—its poor solubility and low oral absorption. The aims of this study were to compare a new food-grade lecithin-based formulation of quercetin, Quercetin Phytosome®, to unformulated quercetin in terms of solubility in simulated gastrointestinal fluids and oral absorption in a randomized crossover pharmacokinetic study of healthy volunteers.

Senolytics in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: Results From a First-in-Human, Open-Label, Pilot Study

Background: Cellular senescence is a key mechanism that drives age-related diseases, but has yet to be targeted therapeutically in humans. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive, fatal cellular senescence- associated disease. Selectively ablating senescent cells using dasatinib plus quercetin (DQ) alleviates IPF-related dysfunction in bleomycin-administered mice.

Possible Therapeutic Effects of Adjuvant Quercetin Supplementation Against Early-Stage COVID-19 Infection: A Prospective, Randomized, Controlled, and Open-Label Study

Background: Quercetin, a well-known naturally occurring polyphenol, has recently been shown by molecular docking, in vitro and in vivo studies to be a possible anti-COVID-19 candidate. Quercetin has strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antiviral properties, and it is characterized by a very high safety profile, exerted in animals and in humans. Like most other polyphenols, quercetin shows a very low rate of oral absorption and its clinical use is considered by most of modest utility. Quercetin in a delivery-food grade system with sunflower phospholipids (Quercetin Phytosome®, QP) increases its oral absorption up to 20-fold.

Quercefit®: Effective for Respiratory Health, When Allergies are Rife

Quercetin is potentially very effective for maintaining healthy conditions but, like many botanical extracts and natural compounds, is provided with poor water solubility. As a consequence, it is barely bio-absorbable and that decreases its potential effectiveness. For optimal bioabsorption, natural products must have a good balance between hydrophilicity for dissolving into the gastro-intestinal fluids and lipophilicity to cross cell’s lipidic biomembranes. Indena’s “biomimetic approach”, adopted since years, allows the company to produce the new bioavailable quercetin on the market. Biomimetics is the science that studies Nature and natural phenomena to understand the principles of underlying mechanisms, to obtain ideas from Nature, imitating its design, plans and processes and to apply concepts that benefit Science, engineering, and medicine, to solve human problems. NATURE AS MEASURE™ represents the very notion of biomimetics and its philosophical origin.

Quercefit®: a Potential Help to Minimize Early-Stage COVID-19 Risk

Quercetin Phytosome® supplementation, in combination with standard care, when used in early stage of COVID-19 could aid in improving the early conditions and help in preventing the severity of the SARS-CoV-2 infection. Moreover, it statistically shortens the timing of molecular test conversion from positive to negative. These are the results of two recently issued human studies, carried out starting from the volume of data produced in the last 15 months for quercetin: those data suggested that this polyphenol, whose properties in supporting respiratory health are scientifically proven, could be a potential adjuvant to manage early stage conditions of COVID-19.
